Karl is the founder of Schramek & Associates, P.C. Karl graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1990 then went on to earn a Master of Science in Taxation degree from Northeastern University in 1995. Karl started his public accounting career with Ernst & Young LLP, worked for Price Waterhouse LLP, then rejoined his former Ernst & Young colleagues who had recently established The Bollard Group LLC, a boutique firm providing tax and financial services to an exclusive clientele.
Karl's experience is concentrated in the area of tax services and planning for small businesses, their owners and high net worth individuals. He has experience with mergers and acquisitions, stock options, venture capital agreements and real estate. Karl especially enjoys working with small business owners, for which there are many opportunities to identify and implement tax savings strategies.
Karl is originally from Ontario, Canada, and has lived in a variety of locations from Freeport, Bahamas to Chester, Vermont. He settled in Massachusetts in 1982 and currently lives in Billerica with his wife, Jennifer, and daughters, Anna and Laura.

Hugo Catalan
Staff Accountant
Hugo is currently working towards completing his Masters of Science in Accounting at Suffolk University. He has a Bachelor Degree in Accounting from his native country of Argentina. Hugo is multi-lingual speaking English, Spanish, Italian & Portugese. He has substantial expertise with computer based accounting systems.

Brian O'Rourke, CPA
Senior Accountant
Brian has a Bachelor Degree in Accounting from Bentley College. Brian enjoys working with small businesses and non-profits. Brian is actively involved in local sports activities, especially hockey. Brian lives in Billerica with his wife, Kathy, and son Carter.

Joanne Robinson
Bookkeeper
Joanne provides bookkeeping services to many of our business clients. She especially enjoys assisting start-up businesses with establishing accounting, timekeeping and other information management systems. Joanne has an undergraduate degree from Bowdoin College and a Masters in Education from The University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

Kathy O'Rourke
Office Manager
Kathy attended Massachusetts Bay Community College in Wellesley, MA. With over 30 years of office experience Kathy oversees the administrative and marketing operations of the firm. Kathy's excellent Customer Service skills are a real asset to our firm. Kathy lives in Billerica with her husband, Brian, and son Carter.
